This is just going to be a bit of a rant

Anyway , I realized how it sucks to change. Situations, people, and well just change in general. Throws me off my usual routine and I hate that. Yes, I may not be the most organized person on the world, I don’t pack my stuff (that’s an understatement) and I NEVER plan my life. Even so, it’s just horrible and takes me a million years to get used to it. Gah.

Something else that peeved me off would have be certain narrow minded people, even though it might be a bit hypocritical of me to say that someone else is selfish but yeah come on. GROW UP. The world is not all about you.

On a lighter note, I am looking forward to this year end. I’ve got a good feeling about it. :)

Introduction

As we all know, an “ah lian” is a term commonly used in Singapore and some parts of Malaysia to describe a girl who is Chinese, somewhat of a gangster (or has gangster-ish qualities), is able to speak fluent mandarin and is also enriched with the knowledge of swearing in one or more dialects preferably hokkien. The ah lian also has many stereotypic likes, dislikes and hobbies which I would soon discuss in the coming chapters.

So what does it mean to be a closet ah lian(AL)? It means that you are somewhat different from any normal AL that you find walking the streets of Bugis and Orchard, closet AL have a whole lot more class and character. We are like an amazing mix of everything under the world, we look like air heads and bimbos, occasionally have lian, beng and aunty-ish tendencies but not forgetting also being a typical Singaporean with “kiasu” and “kiasi” behaviors.

The basics

First and foremost, the most important thing to remember is to DENY. Deny that you are an ah lian. Why? Because you are not, and so do not be afraid and never cave in when friends and relatives accuse you of being one.

Of appearances, styling and speech

A Closet AL has class, we should always be dressed in reasonably affordable brands such as Topshop, Zara, River Island, Sportsgirl, Forever 21, Bardot and H&M, sports gear from Nike, Adidas and Puma, basics from Uniqlo and intimates from Victoria secret. You may wonder how exactly are non-working students able to keep up with this expensive lifestyle. Its simple, wait for the end of season clearances where prices go to ridiculously cheap amounts then proceed to buy items that are not already out of fashion or are classic pieces. Full priced items are indulgences especially in times of sadness and stress, retail therapy rocks, whoever said money cannot buy happiness, obviously did not know where to shop.

Speech is one of the most important things to monitor, fluent spoken English without a Chinese slang would be most appropriate. Even though a Closet AL is also able to speak fluent Chinese and swear in a variety of Asian languages and dialects such as Hokkien, Cantonese, Malay, Korean and Japanese, such speech should be kept only for special occasions e.g. while interacting with other friends who happen to be a Beng or Lian, or trying to charm the Beng at hardware stores to give you a discount.

it was hard for me to leave Singapore this trip, thinking of the unfinished business that i had and how i never got to say goodbye. and i guess this is one closure that i would never get. i know how hard is it for you girls now also, but there is just so much frustration that i have now still. not just over that incident but over the people that i have lost, the people that i should not have lost.

i just wanted you to know, that i would always love you. I did before and i will still continue to. no matter what happened.

anyway, so i started a new semester in uni now and i would say i am generally having more fun then i had the whole of last year, thanks to the AWESOME people that i know here. so yup people, thanks for being awesome.

its gloomy today, right in the middle of summer and its freaking gloomy, maybe thats why i even got so emo, well, and the fact that yan is blasting instrumental songs like kiss the rain. aiya, i blame it on the weather still.

hello everyone!

i know~ i have not blogged in like a million years?

well, i have been damn busy with school, with 2 mid terms in like less then 10 days i am so damn dead its not funny.

and the fact that i have been feeling giddy for the past 2 days do not help. at all.

and Hui Qian kena tendinitis again.

so we are like 2 sick cats who self medicate at home. i swear, when you are in aus, you have to do EVERYTHING on your own. because if you try and go to the doctors, the next free appointment is in like 3 months?

by the time i think like we both die alr pls.

and we(HQ and i) have decided to work in Australia for a while so we can do this to our patients, this refers to asking our receptionist to tell the patient the next available appointment is in a year. and that if its an emergency, we need references from the doctor personally. and guess who that doctor is going to be? HAHA. me or HQ of course!

2. Lady A calls the clinic Hui Qian works at, and the receptionist will tell her the next available appointment is in 3 months and if its an emergency, Lady A would need a reference from Jess.

3. Lady A calls Jess again to explain the situation, but is unable to reach her because she will be at lunch!

4. And Jess will most probably be with Hui Qian having lunch and Jess could simply just tell Hui Qian about Lady A and her stupid toy poodle but no? Jess will make Lady A go through all that hassle just because Jess and Hui Qian went through all of that as students trying to book an appointment with a stupid big shot endocrinologist.

Was doing my topic on Herbivore as i had nothing to do because i forgot to bring my Kidney notes so i "koped" Hui Qian's herbivore to do! and this is what i came across.

BROWSERS: Very Selective (picky), Eats only selected nutritious fruits, plants and fungi, eg. Truffles.

GRAZERS: eats large volumes of anything (not picky). eg. all plants

INTERMEDIATES: Eat depending on avaliability.

And so i came up with my own way of remembering things.

BROWSERS: eg. Lynnette Chee, eats selected items only

GRAZERS: Lee Yan-Yi, eats pretty much whatever you feed her and more.

INTERMEDIATES: Jessica Kuek, eats whatever is avaliable to her, AKA in front of her face (ginger nut cookies)

you will super lugi to have her as youre tenent. she will break your cupboard door, break your plate, break your FORK?!?! dent the basketball pole ( by REVERSING into it!?). and also kick your toodler in the face and kill your vegetation ( by stepping on it becuse she dose not wantr to walk more) but nvm,, vegetation can fight back, and scratch her.(EVOLUTIONARY MILESTONE)so yeah, for earning her 220 a week, is going to be damn hard. you will most prob only like get 20 dollars per month??

she eats a lot, eats what she cannot also, and cosumes everything she can in large amounts (plus my's share). so yeah. pls, think about it gettitng her as a homestay.

After almost 2 months of being in the university and using its facilities, yan and i JUST found out how to get into the Internet using the school computers, like yeah, how sad is that? so now during our 3 hour breaks, we have something to do, esp when my Internet at home is like kns.

Well, things have not been the best for me i guess... but then again there is seriously nothing much i can do about it this time. I just have to be grown up about it... many people i wish i could be with now, many situations i want to get out of, many regrets. i just wish i had the patience to deal with this all.

helloo all! its nerissa blogging once again!(:

chinese new year is on it's way, so are our fats. haha we're definitely gonna gain weight during new year after eating all the junk food! eeeks! well, shuyi gwen jess and i went to nyny for dinner on friday night! the food was not bad and being ij girls. we talked so much, practically fighting to say something. rarr. miss those times! haha. soon after, we realised that the queue outside was super long and decided to be nice and leave(:

we took a slow walk to esplande and down scc and i dont know where we went and ended up by the singapore river! hoho. sat by the steep steps and we began TALKING again! jessica and gwen are scared of the steps! okay it was quite steep. but once you're down, it was pretty okay. prettyugly-OXYMORON. haha okay im so random. back to our talk, it was mostly on the drama- one litre of tears. haha the title truly speaks everything aye? apparently this show has made all who watched it cry. i think it's quite crazy. crazycrazycrazy! why wanna be so sad! watch some happier shows la! like huanhuanai. hoho(:

Today, i found out the meaning of REAL kiasu-ism.

i was on the car today while driving home from bishan becuase i know today body butter got HALF PRICE?!!? SO I WENT TO BUY LIKE 3 AND ONE BODY SCRUB!?! because they were like 2 for $34.90 and it used to be one for $29.90. HOW TO NOT BUY?!?!? HAHAHAHAH. THIS IS ALSO KIASU MAN!

i got so high and bought so many and told my dad, I SAVED MONEY FOR YOU DADDY! 40% OFF LEH!!. he juat gave me the -.- face and told me that i spent more by trying to save? HAHA. anyway, i feel like some chipmunk that is trying to store things for winter now, so must buy now, if not later winter will not have?HAHA.

ok back to my story. so hor, there was this new SBS bus in front of the car and i noticed that there were TWO singnal lights on the right side of the bus, so in total, the bus had THREE signal lights, one on the left and TWO on the right. i told my daddy, see lar, even the bus also must so kiasu, scared that people cannot see they want to signal to come of the the bus stop, then singaporean drivers will pretend never see hor, so must have TWO.

i swear, i so love singaporeans to bits, only we can think of giving TWO SIGNAL LIGHTS ON ONE SIDE OF THE BUS!?!!?!

helloo all, jessica and rebecca are currently in hk shopping their lives away. meanwhile, the rest of recess friends are stuck in singapore. we are all dreading for school to start! urgh i hate school. haven done any homework! well, i will start doing! very soon!

Today, while eating with my family, we came to the topic of what would happen when Singapore goes to war,

and so, with my little almost to none knowledge of the army, all i said was that the infantry will die first. hehe

then i turned to my bro and asked him,

Hiyah! Yan here. Jess and Lynnette are at my house now. We're watching Japanese hana kimi and meteor garden and eating sushi for lunch.

Anyway I wanted to blog about how nice I am because I brought an umbrella just for lynnette because I know her so well and it was raining like no body's business and she doesn't carry an umbrella.

And I fell from the stairs of the over head bridge just now. Yippee.

greatings from the 3 red lobsters and one beautifully tanned person,

yup, as usual, the trip to the ever so beautiful australian beach has caused us to be sunburnt, like damn badly, and since i do not have the pictures for the beach, i shall leave the beach post to when i have the pictures...

today is a rather bittersweet day i would say... i do not know what emotions i would or should be having, but yeah...

we went back to school for the last time, and i said goodbye to the teachers and also to give them presents. we bought them mugs because the teachers in australia LOVE their tea and coffees, esp Ms Hawley who can seriously NEVER EVER be seen WITHIOUT a cup of tea while doing her usual duty in the quad.. hehe...

so yeah, we went back to school today trying to sell our books and all that and after that we went to have lunch,we meaning, yan, lynnette, mumtash, jin, kelvin and i... so yeah, after that daniel joiend us also...

so jin, yan, kelvin and i went to the city first while the others went to garden city to get something done, i went to buy my dear nerissa her slippers and after which yan tried to find presents for her friends in theose typical australian gift shops and jin followe dher whole kelvin and i went to find the ROC candy place, only to find that we were being directed in the WRONG direction by jinjin...

so after walking up and down the lanes in town, to find that roc candy place, i also bought some white chocolate for my gor, and i have to hand carry it tmr... and kelvin was like buying so many packets of the candy for his cousins while i also bought one for my cousins! haha, oh wai, i just reliased, i think singapore has one ROC candy also.. crap.. oh well, its the thoughts that count.....

so yeah, loitered about for a while before going to find yan and jin again and this time we went in front of supre to find our dear mumtash, lynnette and daniel.. :) they so took more then "half an hour" thanks to daniel and his car!:) thanks dan!

and so yeah we went to have korena after that and jin paid like msot of the bill? so yeah, THANKS JIN!!! jin so has to stop paying for such things for us pls, like seriously..i so do not understand why guys HAVE to pay for us sometimes, i mean like the thouhgt and guesture is nice lar but come on lar, we are ALL poor college students. haha cannot take advantage of each other!!

i am so excited to go home now, like really, A FEW MORE DAYS MAN! and i will find myself in my FAVOURITE little red dot... the only little red dot i will ever want to be in. :) i am waiting for like lynnette and mumtash to come online now so that they can go check the weather report and hopfully tell me its NOT raining tmr, becuase i checked this one website and it said it was going to rain, but the other website said its not. -.- soooooooo helpful man....

we all want to go to the beach tmr, and so we do not look like "albino polar bears"(Lee,2007) when we get back to singapore, and like since its the monsoon in singapore, i so do not think we are going to get ANY darker in singapore.... so yeah... argh! hate it when things are unpredictable... like seriously, don't you think life would be so much easier if there were no suprises? but some might say it would be boring... but i don't know, isn't it better to be safe then for it to be unpredictable? and i mean this in more then one sense...

so yeah, i shall go rot somewhere else now... and stop blogging, maybe lynnette would have more like detailed explnations on our little outing today and also a few pictures that she took because she was "bored". haha..

and so yeah, i went out with lynnette and daniel and kelvin and tony to dim sum today!!!! and yeah, because lynnette is like having withdrawal symptoms from o2jam, we had to go all the way to winthrop, to kelvin's house to annoy robin, jen and big dan just so that our dear lynnette can play her o2jam...

and so yeah, well, its not all the way, because like dan drove us, hehe....

and he also paid for the dim sum! THANKS DAN!!!

like seriously i have no idea why guys will not let us pay for it? as in like split the bill, will not die one lor pls.. jin also like that... -.- aiyo.. just take the money also will not die one lor pls....

but oh well, ordered the grad night pics from online at their place because the Internet that i have now currently rather sucks.. like actually, it SUCKS DAMN A LOT MAN...... so yeah, the photos for me, yan and lynnette added up to a total of, AUS$196.00!!!! KILL ME PLS, THIS IS LIKE DAYLIGHT ROBBERY UNTIL CANNOT ROB ALR LAR......

but since we really need memories, so yeah... we have to get the pics! :):)

helloooooo! haha nerissa see is helping darling jessica to liven up her blog while she's preparing for her major major exam! so, for the time being, this blog is mine(: nah, just kidding.

ok, right now, ben xiao jie is feeling a bit of everything! happy, sad, angry, irritated, worried, disappointed, whatever. who cares. this feeling basically sucks. neh. so anyway, today is the 10th of november! haha how time flies.

mms. recently, i went to catch the game plan with cheryl and royston after OP. mms. i should be really really happy now that pw is finally over. it's like a big big burden off me. no matter what results im gonna be getting, i think i should be prepared and know my limits by then. so, let it go nerissa see! (: yes!

dramas: yes dramas! i love dramas! i have finished watching save the last dance for me! the korean version. goodness! it's so touching and i actually cried at the end. this love story really has many ups and downs and the ending is just so perfect! although it's just a show and it's directed, i dont believe that it's unrealistic. it's achievable, as long as u have the faith and trust. yes, it is! next up, we have my lucky star! the taiwan drama! ooh. jimmy lin is so cute! wahhahahaha! ey, that love story is nice too! but it has quite a lot of humour in it! due to status and lots of misunderstandings here and there, they just cant seem to get together and have wasted lotsa time! seeing such a couple going through a hard time touches my heart too when they finally rekindle their love! awwww. then again, it's not unrealistic! heh. there's more too! like corner *with love and huanhuanai. oh! i cant wait to watch huanhuanai! hahha. dramas are filling my life with more colours! (: come and share the love and joy with me gals!

scuba diving: hahahhahhahaa diving have been fun and freaky so far! i've only atteneded two sessions! one theory and one pool! no open sea yet! ok, my initial impression of scuba is that we go down into the clear waters to see or touch the fishes, find cute stuff like nemo or dory, see pretty corals or what not. goodness i was so wrong! the first theory session totally freaked the hell out of me!!! i should be prepared to get bitten my trigger fish is not-so-clear waters, see sharks that are only about 3 metres long? and.. ahh i dont know! somehow, during the theory session, i felt like i was being taught to face danger instead of having fun. getting poked by sea urchins. ewwww. hahaha. coach said we should never trust our buddy! but, i still trust cherylkoh! haha. because u are my buddywuddy under the sea! haha.

pool session was quite tiring but fun! haha. ok, had difficulty breathing at first cos we kept breathing through our nose instead of our mouth. then we end up sucking up the limited air in our mask, adding more pressure on our faces! ouch): hahha sucks. people made fools of themselves cos we see water popping out from the snokel. hahah! after a while, it wasnt that difficult handling the snokel. (: yay! the 10min trap water was super tiring! oh one more thing! guess how heavy is the oxygen tank! it's 18kg! eighteen! goodness! that excludes the BC and weights. i think i wont have to walk into the sea for i'll just lose my balance and drop in. hahha! oh my goodness. why issit so heavy! it's just air! ): rarr.

haha those are just some updates about my life so far. other than those, i have trainings and i dont wanna talk too much about it. basically, i suck at squash. haha why am i even training with the team! something is wrong! it could have been a grave mistake! neh! but, i dont wanna give up! but theres just nothing i can do right now to improve myself. all i can do is to cry myself out at night and put up a brave front when i go for training. im helpless and hopeless. i need my pair of hands to get this on. where's my other half? ):

well, i went to swim with cheryl just two days back! haha swimming is good! i have grown to love swimming! (: love the water and not the chlorine. haha you know why! u get to suntan without feeling the heat! aint that great! wheee(: after that we watched the last episode of the last breakthrough! hahah nice show! im gonna be a social worker in kenya next time! mms. after that, we decided to do our nails! french mani! i helped her and she helped me! after a while, things started screwing up! haha! the cotton, the white paint, everything! hahhaa. funny. we took so long to paint just 20 nails! finished it past midnight and we were uber uber sleepy! her nice papa sent me home and i slept right away. next morning, my beautiful nails were kinda screwed. must be my sleep. hahhaha! but, when u look from far, its beautiful! yay!

ooh, what a lengthy entry! mms. anyway, kuek is going to hk. do you know that! her nice papa got her a tix! MURDOCH COLLEGE YEAR 12 GRADUATION BALL

Its such a BIG whooha in my school now, i swear! its like all the Wednesdays directed study periods are used for THE BALL.

And guess what we did today?

Our principle, tried to teach about 100+ students how to dance. -.-
i am not kidding.

we were like supposed to do the dance so that on that night it will be fun.
my god,
and the situation was sooooo pre-school.
instructions were given that a guy must pair up with a member of the opposite sex, which is a female.
it took us all a million years to get organised because the guys and girls refuse to pair up and eventually we were assigned because everyone refused to move, and in murdoch college, there is an excess of females. HAHA. so yeah, on that night, there will be more females.

and it was fun i guess, i got paired by with aaron, mumtash was whipped of to another corner of the room, yan was with jin, myitzu was with jeff and lynnette was dancing with davina. so yeah, the jive, we had to spin and spin and step here and there, my god it was so disastrous and no one knew what they were doing, but in the end it was fun. almost every couple did not know when to change the partners and the females are supposed to do a turn off to the next guy and so on.

but then again, all us people who have 2 left feet and no sense of rhythm, this was most of the case.

myitzu: do we turn now?
jeff: errr...
yan & jin: one two three four... tow two three four......three two three four...
aaron: turn, turn NOW!!! *spins jessica hard over to jeff*
jessica: HUH?
*aaron looks around only to realise that every one is still with their partners*
aaron: oh, erm, come back! *spins jessica hard in the other direction*
jessica: -.-
yan and jin concentrates on counting and burst out laughing at jess, aaron, jeff and myitzu. while lynnette and davina have a good time sort of stoning and doing their own steps at the corner.

and then aaron, jin and jeff attempt to dance together.
jessica & yan: o.O

and then jeff start singing the " i don't feel like dancing" song by the scissors sisters.

and in like another corner, bill and yuki were trying to get the steps right and bill was concentrating like damn hard on the steps. it was so funny. :)

and so as we spin and turn and spin some more, the females are being carelessly thrown over to other partners. and soon everything becomes a blur because of the spinning.

i have no idea whatsoever how we are supposed to do this in HEELS.
god help us.

and if only the dance was as cool as the one in Harry Potter and the Yule Ball, then NO ONE will be complaining.but then again, there will be lifting involved, hmmm... HAHA. wouldn't that be interesting.
